Drawing Lines: how settlers and surveyors shaped Victoria Settlement

It took 12 survey teams, 4 petitions, 2 telegrams, an order-in-council and countless surveys before Victoria Settlement was officially given the shape it still holds today.

Join in a day of special activities to explore Victoria Settlement's brand-new exhibit about land surveying. Try your hand at basic survey techniques to create your own map. How good is your handwriting? Try reading the letters Victoria Settlement residents sent the government in 1887, 1894 and 1902 and see if you can write with pen and ink. These activities will reveal fascinating stories about the development, history, and residents of Victoria Settlement.
